Earth hour observed today. See link.
My view:
Allow me to share with you a personal experience. Looking at the sin city, Las Vegas for the very first time from my vantage view in the airplane while approaching McCarran airport
didn’t excite me too much as it was daytime at the time. But boy was I shocked when darkness fell. I was looking atLas Vegas in all its glory – with all its bright and colorful lights. Here’s the thing, though. To me, it didn’t feel right. I wasn’t able to hold myself from blurting out to my companion / host, “Kaya pala walang koryente sa Pinas e. Nandito lahat”
didn’t excite me too much as it was daytime at the time. But boy was I shocked when darkness fell. I was looking at
Of course that wasn’t why walang koryente sa Pinas. It was a metaphor. My point really, coming from a third world country, was that I know of people in the Philipines who did not have electricity, and I was feeling sorry for them. In short, I was feeling sorry for the poor people of our country.
Now its relevance to the Philippines ’ observing Earth hour today. I am sorry but I will have to pass on this one. For as long as I do not see in the news the city of Las Vegas joining the “turn off the light hour” movement, I will have to stand by my views.
Think motocross and/ or the grand prix. Why require the public to save on fuel, etc when car / motorcycle races are allowed in every country in the world? I say totally ban them first before anything else.
Our society really does get weirder as it ages.
